Foot Pain

Foot Pain Treatment in Tyler, TX

There are several factors that can lead to foot pain, including diseases, physiological conditions and injuries. Pain is our bodies way of telling us that something is wrong so it is important to be seen by a specialist if you are experiencing pain. Here at East Texas Foot and Ankle Centers, we have the equipment we need to evaluate, diagnose, and treat your foot pain.

The foot consists of 26 bones that are held together and interconnected by ligaments. The muscles and tissues within the foot provide further support while the foot is in motion. When the foot experiences pain, this is the first indication that something is wrong. It could be an internal problem within the foot itself or it could be as a result from negative contact with external sources. Pinpointing the pain’s location and when it started will give your podiatrist a better idea of what may have caused your foot pain.

There are several factors that can lead to foot pain, including diseases, physiological conditions and injuries. Acute trauma is often seen in athletes and certain professions that require physical exertion. Through direct impact or by placing the body in an awkward position, trauma can damage the muscles, bones or ligaments in the foot. Bruises, strains and fractures of the foot can occur as a result from an injury that puts unnecessary stress on the lower extremities.
Shoes can also be a main cause of foot pain. Shoes that are too tight and high heels can put pressure on the balls of the feet or the bones, causing pain and bruising. Long-term exposure to high heels has long been known to cause bunions. Poor athletic footwear and overexertion can result in a common foot problem known as plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the plantar fascia that causes heel pain. The plantar fascia tissue runs from the bottom of the foot to the toes and heel, and when injured can lead to a sharp, stabbing pain.

Treating Foot Pain

We will first examine your foot thoroughly, go through your medical history, and run X-rays before diagnosing your problem. The treatment plan we design will be specific to your condition. This may include a combination of rest, elevation, icing and over-the-counter medications. However, for more serious conditions like fractures, crutches, orthotics, braces, and even surgery may be recommended.
